TIE Card Renewal — fingerprints, production and pickup

After authorization approval or long-term card expiry, the police handle fingerprints, production, lote tracking and pickup. If you need to renew the authorization itself, start at residence permit renewal instead.

START HERERenewal vs card — what are you actually renewing?Separate authorization renewal from card renewal before choosing forms, fees or appointments. If your permit expired or changed status, you renew the authorization first (different forms, different office). If your authorization is valid but the plastic card expired or was lost, you only need the card step below.START HEREAfter approval — the police station stepsThe card documents the authorization — it does not grant it. After approval or long-term expiry, the police handle: Tasa 790-012 payment, fingerprint appointment (book within 1 month of notification), card production (2–6 weeks depending on office), lote tracking, and pickup.LONG-TERMLong-term card renewal — the authorization is permanentLong-term (larga duración) residents: the underlying authorization is permanent and does not expire. You only renew the physical card every 5 years. Same fingerprint-to-pickup process, but no authorization review — simpler paperwork, fewer grounds for refusal.

AFTER APPROVALApproved — from resolution to new TIE cardResolution approved: pay Tasa 790-012 (about €16), book your fingerprint cita previa within 1 month of the notification date, bring EX-17, passport, photo, and the paid tasa receipt. Missing the 1-month window does not void the approval but may trigger a reminder or delay.BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENTTrámite — which documents you needBEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENTEX-17 — TIE card application formEX-17: official TIE card form link, when to use it, what to fill, what to bring and how it connects to tasa 790-012.BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENTFoto — photo requirements for your cardTIE photo: white background, recent, 32×26 mm. The same photo works for the fingerprint appointment and the final card. Take it before your cita — rejected photos delay the process.

ADMIN AND CARD TOOLSTIE lote — track when your card reaches your officeAfter fingerprints your card joins a production batch (lote). Track readiness by office — when your office reaches your lote number, the card is available for pickup. Production typically takes 2–6 weeks; some offices are faster.YOUR LOTELote signals — what actually means your card may be readyLearn which lote signals reliably mean your TIE card is ready. A pickup appointment alone does not prove arrival.BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENTTIE status check: trámite, resuelto and the card queueCheck your TIE status online: understand en trámite, resuelto and when your card enters the production queue.WHILE WAITINGWhy is my TIE taking so long? Why your TIE card is taking long after fingerprints: check the receipt lote, same police office, pickup rule and when to act.WHILE WAITINGMy old TIE expired while waiting — am I still legal?Expired TIE while waiting for renewal: separate authorization from the physical card and carry your proof packet.WHILE WAITINGAutorización de regreso — Spanish return permitAutorización de regreso: ICP appointment, EX-13, Tasa 790-052, cases, documents and 90-day validity before returning to Spain.
