Can't activate Cl@ve Permanente — activation code, lockout and password
For: anyone who has already registered for Cl@ve with their NIE and cannot get in with Cl@ve Permanente. When: at the first activation, right after registering, or when you lose the code or the password fails. What it explains: activation asks for “DNI/NIE, Email, Activation Code you were given at the time of registration” and a code by SMS; if you have not kept the code, “you can regenerate it immediately”; if you enter it wrongly “more than 5 times”, the system “will block the activation code”; with a forgotten or blocked password, “you can set a new password as long as you have kept the activation code”.
In Activación de usuario, with your NIE, your email, the activation code and a code by SMS
Activación de usuario asks for: “DNI/NIE, Email, Activation Code you were given at the time of registration.”
Then: “If they are correct, the system will send you an SMS with a single-use numeric code (One Time Password, OTP) that you must type in the corresponding form field.”
Before you try again, find your case: do you still have the code? Have you already failed several times? Did you register less than a day ago?
If you lost it, regenerate it at the Agencia Tributaria (the Spanish tax agency) or in the Cl@ve app; if it is blocked, the Portal Cl@ve says to repeat the registration
If you have not kept it: “If you have not kept this code, you can regenerate it immediately from the service ‘Regenerar código de activación de Cl@ve Permanente’” (section 3).
If it is blocked, the Portal Cl@ve states: “it will be necessary to generate a new activation code, for which you must carry out the registration in Cl@ve again.”
Registration routes: in-person registration or registration with CSV.
1. After the SMS code, you set your password
Last step of Activación de usuario: “the system will let you set the password you prefer”.
- “It must have a minimum length of 8 characters.”
- “The password cannot contain the first name, surnames or DNI.”
- “If the password has a length equal to or greater than 16 characters, there will be no restrictions on the type of characters to use”
- Keep the activation code (section 4).
2. “Usuario no registrado” right after registering: the notice asks you to come back after 24 hours
If you have just registered and activation responds “Usuario no registrado”, the notice says:
- “Please try to access the Activación de usuario service after 24 hours.” — Activación de usuario.
3. Lost code: regenerate it on the Agencia Tributaria website or in the Cl@ve app, with the support number to hand
These are the two routes if you have not kept the code.
- On the web, go to Regenerar código de activación de Cl@ve Permanente: “After identifying yourself with Cl@ve or with a digital signature (electronic certificate or electronic DNI), you must enter the support number (número de soporte) of your identity document to continue.”
- On your phone: “in the application for mobile devices […] by going into the ‘Gestiones’ category”.
- On the TIE: “If your document is a foreigner card, the support number appears on the front and consists of 8 digits preceded by the letter E. Example: E87654321.”
- On the EU citizen certificate: “the support number is on the back of the card.” “Write this number preceded by the letter ‘C’. If this number has fewer than 8 digits, it must be completed with zeros on the left.” “Example: If your certificate has the support number 9999999, you must enter C09999999.”
- “On older certificates, folio size, the certificate number (support number) appears on the front, at the top right.”
- With the new code, go back to Activación de usuario; if you had already activated Cl@ve Permanente, go to “olvido de contraseña” (section 4).
4. Forgotten or blocked password: “olvido de contraseña” with the activation code you kept
For the password, the Portal Cl@ve states: “If you forget your password or it is blocked because the maximum number of 5 failed attempts has been exceeded, you can set a new password as long as you have kept the activation code.”
- Go to “olvido de contraseña” (Portal Cl@ve instructions) and set a new password.
- If you have not kept the code, regenerate it first (section 3).
5. If another person registers with your number, your registration is left without a phone
For anyone who shares a mobile, the Portal Cl@ve warns:
- “If another person registers with your same number, you will be left without a phone associated with your registration”
- To link another number, follow the change-of-mobile section in Cl@ve.
