Which relatives qualify?
Article 66 covers spouse/partner, qualifying children, legal dependants, qualifying parents and a specified adult caregiver child.
Being related or financially dependent alone does not qualify every adult relative.
Spouse or partner
Both must be over 18; a spouse must not be separated.
A registered EU partnership must remain registered.
An unregistered stable couple normally proves 12 continuous months together; common children remove that prior-period requirement if the bond continues.
Children and legal dependants
Under 18 when applying, or an adult with the specified disability/support or health-based inability to meet their own needs.
One-parent children need the applicable custody and relocation consent. The adult-caregiver route requires recognized dependency of the sponsor.
Parents
First-degree parents of you or your spouse/partner: dependent, normally over 65, with reasons justifying residence.
Under 65 needs humanitarian grounds too. An independent pension does not establish dependency.
What to do
Prove the legal category, not just the family connection.
Steps
- Identify the exact Article 66 category.
- Collect relationship and category-specific proof.
Basis
Art.66 sets separate spouse/partner, child, parent and caregiver-child conditions. Financial dependence alone does not make every adult relative eligible.
