Spanish family renewal — under five years

Art. 95.4 renews only grants under five years while conditions hold. A five-year card date is not automatic long-term eligibility.

When can you renew under Art. 95.4?

Only if the grant was under five years and chapter conditions are still met.

File two months before expiry through three months after — Art. 95.4. Timely filing extends validity.

What if the grant was five years?

Art. 95.4 does not renew a full five-year grant.

Check long-term eligibility only — actual start and absences under Art. 183 and Art. 184; EX-11 if eligible, not generic EX-24.

Grant shorter than five years

Renew only grants under five years while chapter conditions hold.

Window: two months before expiry through three months after; late filing may trigger sanctions; timely filing extends validity.

Full five-year grant

Art. 95.4 does not apply to a full five-year authorization.

Check eligibility only on official long-term page using actual residence start and absences (Arts. 183–184).

Card printing five years or replacement does not prove qualifying years.

What to do

Confirm grant length on the resolution, not only the plastic expiry date.

Bring

  • Grant resolution showing duration
  • Current TIE
  • Valid passport
  • Proof conditions still met (95.4 only)
  • Completed EX-24 if 95.4 applies
  • Address in competent province

Steps

  1. Read grant resolution: Under 5 years → 95.4; five years → eligibility check only.
  2. Count window: two months before expiry through three months after.
  3. If 95.4 applies, prepare EX-24 showing conditions still met.
  4. Submit at Extranjería of your residence province before the post-expiry limit.
  5. For a full five-year grant, check actual qualifying residence and absences under 183–184; use EX11 only if eligible.

Art. 95.4 renews <5-year grants with maintained conditions; five-year grants need Arts. 183–184 eligibility check only.
