FAMILY REUNIFICATION

Family reunification first TIE

Get your first Spanish residence card after entering Spain as a reunited family member.

When must I enter and request the card?

Enter within one month after visa collection, within its validity (Art. 68.5; Hoja 8).
For authorization over six months, request TIE within one month after entry (Art. 209.1). Each relative needs a personal police appointment in the residence province.

First-card packet

Bring the appointment, signed EX-17, original valid passport, paid 790-012 Administration copy, recent 32×26 mm white-background photo and approval if supplied.
An old TIE is for later issuance, not a first-card prerequisite. Follow the chosen police office’s instructions.

Minors and address changes

A minor attends with the documented representative and identity/relationship proof.
On changed address, current police instructions require a padrón issued within three months. After fingerprints, use the receipt for lote/pickup; approval alone does not mean the card is ready.

Work after lawful entry

Reunited spouses, partners and children of working age may work without a separate administrative procedure (Art. 65.2).
This does not automatically authorize work for reunited parents. Keep your authorization and entry proof while the card is being made.

What to do

Preserve entry proof and request the first card on time.

Steps

  1. Keep passport, visa and entry proof.
  2. Book the first-card/fingerprint procedure via official police appointments.
  3. Prepare EX-17, photo, fee, identity and grant documents.
  4. Attend personally; keep the card receipt and follow its pickup instructions.

Art.68.5: effect after visa/entry; Hoja8: enter within a month of collection. Art.209.1: TIE for authorization over six months. ICP distinguishes first and later cards.
