How much unemployment benefit you get in Spain
Amount and duration depend on your contribution base, contribution period and legal caps; do not confuse them with separate subsidies.
How much unemployment benefit will I receive in Spain?
There is no single fixed amount. SEPE calculates your benefit based on your contribution base, qualifying contributions, and the legal limits. Check your decision letter for the final amount.
How does SEPE calculate contributory unemployment benefit?
SEPE uses the average of your unemployment contribution bases from the last 180 days worked, excluding overtime, and then applies the current minimum and maximum limits.
Why does my unemployment benefit go down after six months?
Contributory unemployment benefit is calculated at 70% of your regulatory base for the first 180 days and 60% from day 181 onwards, subject to the limits published by SEPE.
Do children affect how much unemployment benefit I receive?
Yes. Family responsibilities can affect the minimum and maximum limits for contributory unemployment benefit. Tell SEPE about any change in your household circumstances.
Can I estimate my unemployment benefit before applying?
You can use SEPE’s calculator as a guide and review your contribution bases through Social Security. The final amount is only confirmed in SEPE’s decision.

More questions
Is the duration of unemployment benefit fixed?
No. The length of contributory unemployment benefit depends on your qualifying contribution period.
Does part-time work reduce the number of unemployment benefit days I get?
Not necessarily. Each day worked can count as a contribution day even if you worked part-time, although the amount you receive depends on the contribution bases reported to Social Security.
Can I use contributions that I already used for a previous unemployment claim?
No. Contributions already used to establish entitlement to contributory unemployment benefit cannot be used again. SEPE only considers unused contributions.
Does severance pay reduce my unemployment benefit?
Statutory severance pay does not, by itself, reduce contributory unemployment benefit. Apply to SEPE within the deadline and prove that you are legally unemployed.
