Student family stay — eligible relatives in Spain
Check the principal’s study category and remaining permission. Eligible dependants have linked stay, with no work right under this permission.
Can every student bring family under this route?
No. The standard route covers higher education and specialized medical training.
The principal must have at least 90 calendar days of authorization remaining.
Article 56.8 has a separate support-person ground for disability or illness.
Which relatives qualify?
Spouse, registered or proven stable partner; unmarried minor children without their own family unit; qualifying adult children needing personalized support for disability or illness.
Parents are not a general dependent category.
What proves a stable partnership?
Article 56.2 accepts a durable relationship proved by at least one continuous year of marital cohabitation.
With a child in common, proven stable cohabitation suffices; marriage and registered-partner grounds use their own evidence.
Duration and work
The dependent’s period and status are linked to the principal under Article 56.5.
Article 56.6 does not authorize work for the dependent. The principal’s work entitlement does not transfer.
Support person
Article 56.8 covers a person needed to support a principal with disability or illness requiring that support.
Prove the support need; do not turn this into a general parent sponsorship route.
What to do
Check the principal’s authorization before preparing the family packet.
