DEHú and notification address — don't miss your decision
Immigration decisions arrive via DEHú (electronic) or postal mail. Wrong address or unchecked DEHú = missed deadline.
How will I receive my renewal decision?
Decisions can arrive via DEHú (electronic notification system) or postal mail to your registered address.
If you are registered in DEHú, electronic notifications are legally binding — even if you don't open them. After 10 calendar days, an unopened notification is considered received.
If you are not registered, decisions go to the address on your application form. Make sure it matches your current empadronamiento.
Should I register for DEHú?
DEHú gives you faster access to decisions and requerimientos. But it also means deadlines start ticking the moment a notification appears — whether you check it or not.
If you register, check DEHú regularly (at least weekly) during your renewal process. Missing a requerimiento because you didn't check = your file gets archived.
What to do
Ensure your notification address is correct and check DEHú regularly.
Steps
- Verify the address on your application matches current empadronamiento
- If registered for DEHú, check it at least weekly
- Set up a calendar reminder during the waiting period
- If you moved, update your address before filing
