Spain invitation letter requirements: prepare your application
Align host status, housing proof, and each guest’s data with the official police form and your competent office notice before you book or file.
What must a complete invitation application include?
A complete application records required host, lodging and guest details, with supporting documents and signed declarations.
Use the official application; the checklist below is the nationwide baseline — your ICP office notice may add local items.
Who can invite under PRE/1283?
Spanish citizens, EU nationals or community-regime beneficiaries, and foreigners legally resident in Spain can invite.
A NIE alone does not prove eligibility; establish the applicable status.
Local lists differ by competent police notice
- Alicante, Málaga and Murcia: owners bring a recent nota simple from the property registry; non-owners bring that same nota simple plus a lease or another valid housing document.
Murcia also lists a municipal certificate of how many people live in the home.
Murcia also requires a copy of the guest’s passport identity-details page. - Barcelona, Girona, Madrid, Valencia and Zaragoza: one completed form per guest, originals and copies, and a foreign host’s passport plus applicable EU registration certificate or TIE.
Tarragona lists originals; its notice does not impose the same blanket copy requirement. - Alicante and Málaga: application plus copy per guest and correctly paid fee proof.
For other areas, confirm the payment stage in the selected notice.
Alicante/Málaga list the host’s passport or DNI original and copy; the guest’s passport original/copy is recommended for accurate recording of personal details. - Use a representative only where the competent office’s instructions allow it.
Alicante representation: reliable proof of authorization and a copy of the representative’s valid identity document.
Málaga: proof of authorization and the represented person’s identity copy, authenticated/notarially certified as specified. - For foreign documents actually requested, check translation and public-document legalization/apostille or treaty exemption.
Where the local notice allows, an EU citizen without a passport can enter their national identity number in the PASAPORTE field. - PRE permits several guests when the conditions are met.
Separate local forms or appointments can still apply; Alicante’s appointment route requires one cita per guest.
