Should I renew as student or modify to work?
If you are continuing studies → renew as student (prórroga de estancia).
If you finished studies and want to work → you need a modification (modificación) from student stay to work authorization, not a renewal.
Filing a student renewal when you are no longer studying will be denied. Filing a modification when you should renew risks losing your current status.
What does the modification require?
A work contract or business plan (cuenta propia), plus proof that you completed your studies.
The modification is filed through the same immigration system but uses a different procedure sheet and has different requirements than a student prórroga.
